HABITATION SERVICE

A Habitation service should be carried out annually on the interior of your caravan, this is designed to check that your caravan's utilities (Gas, Water & Electrics) are operating in the way intended and are safely connected so as to avoid any untimely failures.

As part of our caravan habitation service, we carry out a full inspection which consists of a 45-point check which includes a damp test, electrical, gas and water systems and more, it also includes all labour and consumables.

CARAVAN CHASSIS SERVICING

We also carry out a Caravan Chassis Service. This is important for any caravan or trailer. At SCC Services, we service both single and twin-axle caravans. Our chassis service inspection is carried out under the same high standards as the Main Manufacturers.

With our caravan chassis service, you get a very thorough all-around safety inspection. We check the road lighting, hitch assembly, overrun assembly and drawbar. we also check the chassis components including axle tube, and suspension assembly, and remove the road wheels to aid a close inspection and to enable the removal of the brake drums to aid manual inspection and adjustment of braking components and lubrication of all working parts.

  • Water pump pressure switch & heater - check operation & clean grit filter
  • Taps, micro switch, valves, pipes & tank (if fitted) - check condition & operation
  • Water filter & housing - check for leaks & replace the filter if necessary
  • Waste system - check for leaks
  • Toilet - check seals, flush & blade operation
  • Drain down - winter only
Ventilation
  • Fixed ventilation openings - check the free flow of air
  • Roof lights - check to ensure free of obstructions
Fire Safety
  • DIY additions - check operation & safety
  • Security & smoke alarms - check operation
  • Extinguisher (if fitted) - check the correct type fitted & expiry date
  • Fire blanket (if fitted)
Body Work
  • Roof - check all seals & condition of roof lights, flues & ACC
  • Body panels - check & report upon any damage & sealant condition
  • Door locks & hinges - check operation & lubricate
  • Body attachments - check security (including ladders, cycle racks, aerials, satellite dishes etc.)
  • Floor - check for delamination
  • Furniture - check condition & operation (incl. hinges, stays etc. )
  • Grab handles - check condition & security
  • Window seals & blinds - check condition & operation
  • Damp test - carry out & note readings on a separate damp report.
Chassis Service & Running Gear
  • Coupling head & safety catch - check wear/damage and lubricate
  • Ball acting stabiliser - check pads
  • Breakaway cable and clip - check condition correctly routed and attachment integrity
  • Head springs and damper - check operation, security and lubricate connections and moving parts
  • Drawbar - check
  • Jockey wheel - check condition operation and lubricate
  • Chassis - check the condition and security of assemblies
  • Chassis to body - check the security
  • Corner steadies and spare wheel carrier ( where fitted ) - check for damage, operation and lubricate
  • Wheels - check for damage and distortion
  • Tyres - assess the age and advise replacement if over seven years
  • Tyres - check the condition and wear pattern ( incl sidewalls & valves)
  • Check & record tyre tread depths
  • Check & record tyre pressures ( incl spare )
  • Suspension assemblies - check operation
  • Handbrake mechanism - check operation & lubricate
  • Brake rods, cables & supports - check operation, lubricate
  • Remove brake drums - clean & check hub bearings & seals
  • Brake shoes - clean & check the condition of linings ( incl springs & expanders
  • Adjust brakes & check operation
  • Replace road wheels & torque to manufacturer's settings ( quality control check required )
